Huawei Enjoy 70z Review: A Powerhouse Budget Smartphone with Exceptional Battery Life

Huawei’s Enjoy 70z, launched in February 2024, is a smartphone designed for users who need long battery life without breaking the bank. With a massive 6000mAh battery, a 6.75-inch display, and a solid Kirin 710A chipset, the Enjoy 70z positions itself as an ideal budget phone for casual users who prioritize battery life and everyday performance.

In this review, we will look at how the Enjoy 70z fares in terms of design, display quality, camera performance, battery life, and overall value.

Design and Build Quality

The Huawei Enjoy 70z features a clean and simple design that, while not groundbreaking, is functional and pleasing. Measuring 168.3 x 77.7 x 9 mm and weighing 199g, it is a bit bulky, but that is understandable given the large 6000mAh battery. The phone’s slightly thicker profile ensures that it feels sturdy in hand, and its weight is balanced, which makes it comfortable to hold despite its size.

Available in Black, Blue, and White, the color options cater to different tastes. The phone is also splash and dust resistant, making it a practical choice for everyday use, though it does not have an official IP rating for water resistance.

The fingerprint sensor is conveniently placed on the side of the phone, offering quick and reliable unlocking. Despite its budget price, the Enjoy 70z feels solidly built, with no creaks or noticeable flexing when held.

Display: Large and Functional

The Enjoy 70z features a 6.75-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of around 260 ppi. While the resolution isn’t as high as some other smartphones in the mid-range or flagship categories, it’s perfectly adequate for day-to-day tasks like browsing, social media, and watching videos.

Colors are vibrant, and the display is bright enough for indoor and outdoor use. The large screen size is a plus for users who enjoy watching content on their phones or who frequently multitask, as it offers ample screen real estate for split-screen use.

However, the resolution might not appeal to users who prefer sharper displays, especially when compared to Full HD or higher resolution panels available in more expensive phones. For a budget phone, though, the display delivers a satisfactory experience.

Performance: Reliable for Everyday Use

The Huawei Enjoy 70z is powered by the Kirin 710A chipset, built on a 14nm process. This octa-core processor consists of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.0GHz for performance and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz for efficiency. Paired with 8GB of RAM, the phone provides a smooth experience for typical day-to-day tasks like messaging, browsing, and using social media apps.

While the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU isn’t designed for high-end gaming, it can handle casual games without too much trouble. Games like Candy Crush or Subway Surfers run smoothly, though more demanding games like PUBG Mobile may require lower settings for acceptable performance.

Running on HarmonyOS 4.0, the Enjoy 70z benefits from Huawei’s custom software experience, which is user-friendly and efficient. However, like other Huawei devices, it does not come with Google Play Services, which may be a drawback for users who rely heavily on Google apps. Fortunately, Huawei’s AppGallery has grown significantly, and users can still access most essential apps through alternative means.

Camera: Basic Yet Capable

The Enjoy 70z is equipped with a dual-camera setup on the back: a 13MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. While the camera system isn’t going to win any awards, it’s capable of capturing decent photos in good lighting conditions. The 13MP camera produces images with good color accuracy and reasonable detail, making it ideal for everyday photography needs such as social media posts and family photos.

The 2MP depth sensor helps with portrait shots by creating a nice bokeh effect that blurs the background while keeping the subject in focus. However, low-light performance is where the camera shows its budget nature, as images tend to lose detail and become noisy in poor lighting.

The selfie camera is an 8MP sensor, which takes decent selfies in good lighting but struggles slightly in low-light environments. Both the main and selfie cameras are capable of recording 1080p video at 30fps, which is standard for a phone at this price range.

Battery Life: A Marathon Runner

One of the key selling points of the Huawei Enjoy 70z is its massive 6000mAh battery, which provides excellent battery life. The large battery capacity, combined with the power-efficient Kirin 710A chipset, ensures that the phone easily lasts a full day, even with heavy use.

For light to moderate users, the battery can stretch to two days without needing a recharge. This makes the Enjoy 70z ideal for users who are constantly on the go and don’t want to worry about charging their phones frequently.

When it does need charging, the phone supports 22.5W wired charging. While not the fastest charging speed compared to flagship models, it’s respectable for a budget phone. You can expect to get from 0% to about 50% charge in just under 45 minutes.

Connectivity and Other Features

In terms of connectivity, the Huawei Enjoy 70z supports dual SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB Type-C 2.0. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a welcome feature for users who still prefer wired headphones. However, it lacks NFC and an FM radio, which are features some users may miss.

The phone supports GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, and QZSS for positioning, ensuring accurate navigation whether you’re using it for driving, cycling, or walking.

Conclusion: A Budget Phone That Delivers on Battery Life

The Huawei Enjoy 70z is a budget phone that excels in one key area: battery life. Its massive 6000mAh battery ensures that you won’t be reaching for the charger too often, making it perfect for users who prioritize longevity over cutting-edge features. The large 6.75-inch display, decent camera system, and solid build quality make it a practical choice for users who need a reliable phone without all the frills of a high-end model.

At around 140 EUR, the Enjoy 70z offers excellent value for money, particularly for users who want a phone that can handle basic tasks while lasting well beyond a full day of use. While it doesn’t offer the most advanced features, its long battery life, large screen, and budget-friendly price make it an appealing option in the budget smartphone market.
