Huawei has rolled out groundbreaking navigation capabilities with the Huawei Mate 80 AMap navigation system. The Mate 80 and Mate X7 are the first devices to support new HarmonyOS-based features in AMap (Gaode Maps)—Alibaba’s leading mapping app in China.

Why does this matter? Because Google Maps doesn’t work reliably in China. As a result, Gaode Maps has become the go-to alternative for millions. It offers real-time traffic, detailed routes for driving, walking, biking, public transit, and more.

Now, with HarmonyOS integration, AMap gets even smarter. Specifically, the Huawei Mate 80 AMap navigation introduces automatic route planning through underground ring roads and multi-level parking garages. This helps avoid surface congestion—especially in dense urban zones.

For example, if you’ve ever driven through Chongqing’s Jiefangbei district, you know how chaotic underground traffic can be. Thanks to this update, the Mate 80 can guide you precisely through tunnels, car elevators, and complex intersections—even without GPS.

Moreover, the system delivers accurate positioning in deep underground structures. It tracks your location across multiple levels using on-device sensors and AI, not just satellite signals.

The Pura 80 series also benefits from AMap enhancements like lane-level navigation in long tunnels. This means users see exactly which lane they’re in, even when satellites drop out.

But Huawei went further with the Mate 80. It now supports detailed mapping of traffic lights, underground parking entrances, and ring road segments. Over time, these features will expand to more cities and vehicle models.

Importantly, HarmonyOS makes apps like AMap faster and more context-aware. Consequently, users reach their destinations quicker—without wasting hours in gridlock.

Looking ahead, this is just the start of Huawei’s native app ecosystem push. Soon, we may see even deeper integrations across foldables, tablets, and smart cars—all powered by HarmonyOS.
