Huawei P60 Pro Review: A Flagship Redefined with Exceptional Camera and Powerful Performance

The Huawei P60 Pro stands tall among flagship smartphones released in 2023, delivering a robust combination of design, performance, and stellar camera capabilities. Released in March 2023, the P60 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G chipset and features an impressive OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes this device a standout in the flagship segment.

Design and Build: Premium and Durable

The Huawei P60 Pro exudes a premium design, with a glass front and back, available in various elegant colors like Black, Green, Violet, and the unique Rococo Pearl. Measuring just 8.3mm in thickness and weighing 200g, it feels comfortable to hold without sacrificing durability.

The device also boasts IP68 water and dust resistance, offering protection against immersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, ensuring it can handle the elements with ease.

Display: Stunning LTPO OLED with 120Hz Refresh Rate

At the front of the Huawei P60 Pro is a 6.67-inch LTPO OLED display that delivers stunning visuals with vibrant colors, deep contrasts, and excellent sharpness. The 1220 x 2700 pixel resolution results in a pixel density of approximately 444 ppi, making everything from media consumption to gaming a treat for the eyes.

The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth animations, whether you are scrolling through social media or playing fast-paced games. Additionally, Huawei’s Kunlun Glass protection adds an extra layer of durability to the display.

Performance: Powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G

Under the hood, the Huawei P60 Pro packs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G chipset, which, although lacking 5G connectivity, is still a powerhouse for most tasks. The octa-core CPU, paired with the Adreno 730 GPU, ensures that gaming, multitasking, and handling demanding apps are executed seamlessly.

With either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, the phone can handle heavy workloads effortlessly, and the UFS storage (available in 256GB or 512GB variants) ensures fast read and write speeds for your data.

Camera: Photography Powerhouse

The camera system on the Huawei P60 Pro is one of its most impressive features. The triple-camera setup consists of:

  • 48 MP (wide, f/1.4-f/4.0, OIS, PDAF): This is the primary shooter, delivering high-resolution images with great clarity, dynamic range, and detail. The adjustable aperture allows it to excel in both bright and low-light conditions.
  • 48 MP (telephoto, f/2.1, OIS, 3.5x optical zoom): This camera is perfect for zooming in on distant subjects without losing detail, thanks to the optical zoom and sensor-shift OIS for steady shots.
  • 13 MP (ultrawide, f/2.2): Ideal for landscape shots and group photos, this ultrawide lens captures more of the scene with minimal distortion.

The front-facing 13 MP ultrawide camera is perfect for selfies, offering a wide field of view, which is ideal for group selfies or capturing more background in your shots.

Both the main and selfie cameras support 4K video recording, ensuring crisp and detailed footage. The inclusion of gyro-EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) ensures steady video recording, even when in motion.

Battery: Fast Charging and Excellent Endurance

With a 4815 mAh battery, the Huawei P60 Pro offers solid endurance, lasting a full day of heavy use on a single charge. Huawei’s 88W wired fast charging can recharge the phone from 0% to 100% in just about 30 minutes, making it one of the fastest charging smartphones available. The 50W wireless charging feature is equally impressive, making it easy to top up your battery without cables.

For those with multiple devices, the P60 Pro also offers reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge accessories like wireless earbuds directly from your phone.

Software and Features: HarmonyOS and EMUI 13.1

The P60 Pro runs on HarmonyOS 3.1 in China and EMUI 13.1 in other regions, providing a smooth and fluid user experience. Despite the lack of Google Play Services, Huawei’s AppGallery is an alternative that offers access to many popular apps. You can also sideload additional apps, giving you flexibility in terms of the software you choose to run on your device.

The inclusion of NFC, USB Type-C 3.1, and infrared capabilities enhance the device’s functionality for everyday tasks such as contactless payments, data transfers, and using your phone as a remote control for appliances.

Connectivity: Advanced GPS and Dual SIM Support

Huawei has equipped the P60 Pro with an advanced positioning system, including GPS, GLONASS, BDS, and GALILEO, for accurate and reliable navigation. The phone supports dual SIM cards, offering flexibility for users who need two numbers on one device.

While the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset used in the P60 Pro is 4G-only, the device offers excellent network performance, with fast download and upload speeds in supported areas.

Final Thoughts: A Flagship That Delivers on All Fronts

The Huawei P60 Pro is a flagship smartphone that excels in nearly every category. From its powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset to its stunning OLED display and impressive camera system, it is a device that delivers premium performance. The fast 88W wired and 50W wireless charging make it convenient for users on the go, while its IP68 water resistance ensures durability.

Although it lacks 5G and Google Play Services, the overall package still offers a strong alternative to other flagship devices on the market. If you’re looking for a smartphone that combines elegance with cutting-edge technology, the Huawei P60 Pro is definitely worth considering.
