Huawei Enjoy 70 Review: A Budget Phone with an Impressive Battery Life

Huawei has established itself as a reliable option for budget-conscious users, and the Huawei Enjoy 70, released in December 2023, is no exception. With its long-lasting 6000mAh battery, 50MP camera, and affordable price point of around 160 EUR, the Enjoy 70 offers solid performance for those seeking a reliable smartphone that doesn’t break the bank.

In this review, we will take an in-depth look at the key features of the Huawei Enjoy 70, including its design, performance, camera, and battery life, to see how well it fares in the competitive budget smartphone market.

Design and Build Quality

The Huawei Enjoy 70 offers a simple yet robust design, with dimensions of 168.3 x 77.7 x 8.9 mm and a weight of 207g. It’s not the thinnest or lightest phone, but this slightly bulkier form factor is necessary to accommodate the large 6000mAh battery. The build quality feels solid, with a durable plastic back and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that provides a convenient and secure way to unlock the phone.

Available in Black, White, and Green, the color options are minimal yet stylish, appealing to users who prefer a clean and simple look. The phone’s rounded corners and sleek profile ensure it’s comfortable to hold despite its size.

Display: Large but Low Resolution

The Huawei Enjoy 70 features a 6.75-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of around 260 ppi. While the display is large and offers ample screen real estate for watching videos or browsing the web, the 720p resolution is relatively low compared to Full HD displays found in more expensive models. As a result, the screen lacks the sharpness and vibrancy that higher-resolution displays offer.

That said, the display is still functional for most everyday tasks, and the Always-on display feature allows users to quickly check notifications and the time without waking the device fully.

Performance: Kirin 710A Handles Everyday Tasks

Under the hood, the Huawei Enjoy 70 is powered by the Kirin 710A chipset, built on a 14nm process. This octa-core processor, paired with 8GB of RAM, provides decent performance for everyday tasks like messaging, social media, and light gaming. The Mali-G51 MP4 GPU can handle casual games well, but don’t expect stellar performance in graphic-intensive titles like PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact.

Running on HarmonyOS 4.0, the Enjoy 70 offers a smooth and user-friendly experience. While it lacks Google Play Services due to trade restrictions, Huawei’s AppGallery provides access to a growing number of apps, and users can sideload APKs if needed.

Camera: Decent Photos in Good Lighting

The Huawei Enjoy 70 features a dual-camera setup on the back, with a 50MP main wide-angle sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. The 50MP camera, with an f/1.8 aperture, performs well in good lighting conditions, capturing sharp images with accurate colors. However, the camera struggles in low-light environments, producing noisier images with less detail.

The 2MP macro camera is more of a novelty and is useful for extreme close-up shots, but its low resolution makes it less practical for everyday use. For users who primarily use their phone’s camera in well-lit environments, the Enjoy 70 delivers satisfactory results.

On the front, the 8MP selfie camera offers good quality for video calls and casual selfies. Both the front and rear cameras support 1080p video recording at 30fps, which is standard for a budget phone.

Battery Life: The Star of the Show

One of the most appealing features of the Huawei Enjoy 70 is its massive 6000mAh battery. This large battery capacity, combined with the power-efficient Kirin 710A chipset and 720p display, ensures that the phone can easily last two full days on a single charge with moderate use. Even for heavy users who frequently stream videos, browse the web, and use social media, the Enjoy 70 provides impressive battery longevity.

When it does need charging, the phone supports 22.5W wired charging. While not the fastest charging speed compared to flagship models, it’s still decent for a phone in this price range. The phone can recharge from 0% to around 50% in about 45 minutes.

Connectivity and Additional Features

The Huawei Enjoy 70 supports a variety of connectivity options, including dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB Type-C 2.0 with OTG support. However, the phone lacks NFC, which may be a drawback for users who rely on contactless payments.

In terms of sensors, the Enjoy 70 includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and compass. It also supports GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, and QZSS, ensuring accurate navigation whether you’re driving, cycling, or walking.

Conclusion: A Solid Budget Phone for Long-Lasting Use

The Huawei Enjoy 70 is a solid budget smartphone that excels in one key area: battery life. Its massive 6000mAh battery ensures that you can go days without needing to charge, making it ideal for users who prioritize longevity over cutting-edge features. While the display resolution and camera performance are average at best, the phone’s low price of around 160 EUR makes it an excellent choice for users who want a reliable, long-lasting phone without the need for top-tier specs.

Overall, the Huawei Enjoy 70 delivers a good balance of features for its price, making it a worthy contender in the budget smartphone market.
