The Huawei MateBook X Pro arrives in Taiwan this September, bringing a slim design, strong hardware, and Huawei’s mobile-inspired innovation. First shown at MWC 2018, the laptop drew attention for its narrow bezels and high screen-to-body ratio.
Huawei confirmed two models for the Taiwan market. Buyers can choose between Intel’s 8th-generation Core i5 or Core i7 processors. Prices start at NT$42,900 for the Core i5 model and NT$59,900 for the Core i7 version, positioning the laptop as a high-end option.
Design and Display
The Huawei MateBook X Pro features a 13.9-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Its 91% screen-to-body ratio creates an almost borderless viewing experience. A unibody metal frame with diamond-cut edges makes the laptop both elegant and sturdy.
Weighing just 1.33 kg, it balances portability with durability. The chassis measures 14.6 mm at the thickest point and only 4.9 mm at the thinnest. Huawei offers the device in deep space gray, targeting users who value a professional look.
Hardware and Performance
Buyers can pick from two configurations. One includes an Intel Core i5-8250U with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. The other offers an Intel Core i7-8550U, up to 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
Graphics vary by model. The entry-level unit relies on Intel UHD620, while the higher-end version adds an NVIDIA MX150 card. These options cover everyday tasks, streaming, and even light creative work.
For connectivity, the laptop includes two USB-C ports. One supports Thunderbolt 3 for fast transfers, charging, and external GPU use. Huawei also kept a standard USB-A port for legacy devices, adding versatility.
Features and User Experience
Huawei built the MateBook X Pro with user convenience in mind. The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor for secure and quick logins.
The full-size backlit keyboard offers comfortable typing, while its splash-resistant design adds durability. A large glass touchpad supports smooth navigation. Four speakers deliver Dolby Atmos surround sound, and four microphones capture voice from all directions.
Huawei also hid the webcam under a keyboard key. Users press it when needed, and it pops up, saving space while protecting privacy.
Other Devices at Launch
Huawei also introduced the TalkBand B5 at the same event. The hybrid device combines a wristband with a detachable Bluetooth headset. It features a 1.13-inch AMOLED display with sharp colors and outdoor visibility. Dual microphones support noise reduction, while an optical heart rate sensor runs Huawei’s TruSeen 2.0 algorithm.
The TalkBand B5 costs NT$4,990 and launches on October 1, shortly after the MateBook X Pro.
A Step Forward for Huawei
The Huawei MateBook X Pro strengthens Huawei’s position in the premium laptop space. With slim design, Intel’s latest chips, NVIDIA graphics, and advanced multimedia features, it offers a complete package for professionals and tech fans.
Huawei’s ability to merge smartphone-inspired design with laptop performance makes this model stand out. The MateBook X Pro proves the company’s ambition to compete with global PC leaders.
