AI Core Network Evolution

AI Core Network Evolution took center stage at the 10th 5G Core Network Summit in Bangkok, where Huawei urged global telecom operators to embrace a new phase of intelligence powered by advanced AI-driven architectures. The company said the shift toward agent-based networks will define the future of communication, service delivery, and operator competitiveness.

At the event, George Gao, President of Huawei’s Cloud Core Network Product Line, outlined a strategic roadmap for telcos as they enter the next era of intelligent connectivity. He noted that intelligent terminals and modern service applications increasingly rely on integrated agent capabilities, making it essential for networks to support frictionless collaboration across devices, platforms, and applications.

Key to this evolution is Huawei’s concept of network agentization, which allows networks to communicate through agent-to-agent protocols and model context protocols. These frameworks enable terminals and network systems to coordinate more efficiently, improving reliability while unlocking real-time responsiveness. Gao added that intent-based entry points allow terminal-side agents to invoke network capabilities exactly when required.

Huawei also stressed the importance of building an ecosystem-wide agent communication network. By expanding authentication from SIM-based systems to digital identity mechanisms, telecom operators can introduce more secure and flexible user access models. This cross-ecosystem approach ensures compatibility between intelligent devices and cloud-native network functions.

Intelligent network services represent the first major opportunity in the AI Core Network Evolution. Using AI-powered agents, operators can deliver smarter calling services that analyze user intent, emotional cues, and contextual information. Interactive calling, enabled through the data channel, transforms traditional dial pads into gateways for advanced AI interactions.

Huawei further emphasized that network capability productization will allow telecom operators to transition from selling raw traffic to offering premium, differentiated digital experiences. With enhanced QoS guarantees, definable service tiers, and identity-based privileges, operators can monetize experiences that were previously impossible.

To support the shift, Huawei highlighted autonomous network operations using digital employees, MoM architectures, and digital twin simulations. These capabilities enable operators to achieve higher operational efficiency and accelerate the path toward level-4 autonomous networks with minimal human intervention.

Finally, Huawei underscored the need for diversified telco cloud computing power. Integrating general-purpose and AI computing into a unified cloud environment will ensure operators can manage billions of intelligent agents and massive service traffic.

Gao concluded that AI Core is not just a technology upgrade but a transformation of the entire telecommunications ecosystem. Huawei intends to continue driving innovation that strengthens operator competitiveness and expands global opportunities.
