Claro Perú, in collaboration with Huawei, has successfully conducted 5G-Advanced (5G-A) trials, achieving blazing 10 Gbps download speeds — ten times faster than current 5G. The trial, held in a controlled environment, leveraged standalone architecture and a mix of mid-band and millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum temporarily allocated by the Peruvian government.

The pilot aimed to showcase 5G-A’s superior capabilities, including ultra-low latency, higher capacity, energy efficiency, and support for AI-powered, immersive, and autonomous applications. According to Juan David Rodríguez, CTO of Claro Perú, the breakthrough represents a major leap in offering faster and more reliable mobile services.

Huawei’s Samuel Qu, VP for América Móvil, emphasized that 5G-A delivers deterministic performance vital for connecting people, machines, and autonomous systems. The test simulated high-demand connectivity scenarios, backed by real-world case studies. For example, in Qingdao, China, 5G-A networks boosted factory logistics by 50%, slashing warehouse storage times from 30 days to just one.

The trial used 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz spectrum bands, reinforcing the versatility of 5G-A to operate across diverse frequencies. Huawei encouraged telecom operators to monetize the technology by introducing experience-based tiers, network slicing for industries, and AI-based optimization strategies.

At MWC Shanghai 2025, James Chen, president of Huawei’s carrier group, highlighted how operators in China are already monetizing 5G-A. Use cases include premium upload speeds for creators and streamers, customized service tiers for mobile gamers, and industrial campus networks for factories and logistics operations.

Chen pointed to AI as a critical enabler, helping optimize spectrum use, predict traffic surges, and cut power consumption — all of which enhance service availability and lower costs.

As 5G-A emerges globally, Claro’s test signals Peru’s readiness to lead Latin America in next-generation telecom. With real-time smart factory deployments, immersive media, and intelligent transportation on the horizon, 5G-A offers a transformative path forward for both consumers and industries.
