Huawei Crowns Regional Champions at 2024–2025 ICT Competition APAC Finals in Malaysia
Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 reached its Asia-Pacific climax on February 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as top tech talents from across the region were honored during a high-profile awards ceremony jointly hosted by Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation.
This year’s competition saw participation surge to over 8,000 students from 20+ countries—an impressive 25% increase from last year. After rigorous rounds, 110 finalists from 12 countries advanced to compete in four key tracks: Innovation, Computing, Network, and Cloud.
Distinguished guests included Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, and Huawei Asia Pacific VP Alex Zhang, who emphasized Huawei’s commitment to fostering a vibrant ICT learning ecosystem.
“Our goal is to empower future leaders through 5G, AI, and cloud computing,” Zhang said. “These tools are essential for driving digital growth and creating smart, sustainable societies.”

- Innovation Track: Institute of Technology of Cambodia took the top prize for their groundbreaking solution praised for both technical depth and real-world impact.
- Computing Track: Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (Vietnam) claimed the grand prize.
- Network Track: Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia) impressed judges with networking prowess.

In a newly launched Teaching Category, Dr. Husni Teja Sukmana of APTIKOM (Indonesia) earned the grand prize for outstanding instruction in computer science education.
Huawei’s Growing Regional ICT Ecosystem
The competition is part of Huawei’s broader push to expand ICT education. The company has grown its ICT Academy partnerships to 340+ universities in 18 countries, up from just two institutions eight years ago. In 2024 alone, nine new course modules were launched focusing on AI, cloud computing, openEuler, and Gauss.
Localization efforts have expanded with courses available in Thai and Indonesian, while collaborative programs in Thailand—such as the PV Installer Certification and dual-network engineer training—have already certified 300+ professionals under joint government initiatives.
Building the Future Through Innovation and Inclusion
Huawei’s ICT Competition continues to promote creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurship among young tech talent, aligning with global priorities of digital transformation, education access, and economic empowerment.
“Competitions like these do more than recognize excellence,” said one guest. “They inspire a generation to lead change through technology.”
As Huawei pushes forward with its vision “In the Asia Pacific region, for the Asia Pacific region,” the ICT Competition remains a powerful symbol of inclusive innovation, fostering a smarter and more connected future across borders.
